One of the best engine insurances you can take on an older diesel is to make sure the cooling system is A1. I've replaced the water pump, thermostat, fan belt and hoses. I've also had the radiator reconditioned. It's still good after 30years. Try getting 30 years from one of those new plastic & aluminium radiators! Anyway, I'm now waiting on the power steering unit to come back from the dealer. I'm pleased I took it in to them because it had a few issues I would not have picked up. As they say: a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing sometimes. The old girl should be good again for a few summers to come once I put her all back together. Best, Ged

I change my coolant every year and only use distilled water. I'm going to see how long I get on my plastic and aluminum radiator.

My neighbors NH is 7-8 years old and he has yet to change the coolant. He might change the engine oil every 250-300 hours if the tractor is lucky. Never could understand someone buying a new tractor and treating it like that.
