I've bumped into a few wood painted objects (swingsets, etc) over the years resulting in paint from the swingset (brown) marring my green hood with small brown scuffs.

Any tricks on removing these paint scuffs?

I believe a clay bar for automotive paint might help remove the paint. Then a plastic polish for the scratches. I believe you will be able to find a clay bar at walmart.

What have you tried?

I'd start with some detergent, and something like "Simple Green". Nothing abrasive.

Then I'd move to some mild solvents. Diesel fuel, gasoline, mineral spirits, paint thinner, turpentine.

Then if they don't work, and still intent on removing them, I'd move to some stronger solvents (but test them first in remote area) such as Xylol or acetone. I'd only apply to the offensive paint, like with a cotton swab, and try not to bathe the whole area.

The Deere paint is tough, but paint remover is going too far IMO. :)

Novus plastic polish comes in three bottles number 1, number 2 and number 3.
Number 3 being the last one you use for glass smooth polising. Novus is used on clear acrylic by engravers.

If the scratches are bad you can use a Random Orbital Sander with Scotch 3M pads. Start with the green pad which is rough, then use the marron color then white with a polish or Johnson's Paste Wax which will leave your plastic looking like brand new. I use this technique for Dupont Corian and soft acrylic.

Thanks Keith
I'm going to try your polishing plan.

I ended up using non-abrasive turtle wax compound. Lots of rubbing, but it did a nice job on the paint scuffs. Now I'd like to blend the fine scratches out. Might be trading her in on an X-748 next week.
