Tractor
Branson 2415H
Hi, my starter went out on my Branson 2515H tractor and I am trying to remove it. I've unbolted up but it hits the Hydraulic fuel pump.I cannot determine any other way to get the starter out other than removing the hydraulic fuel pump?

The tractor is in a field and not accessible to put it on a trailer and take it to a repair shop. I'm kind of stuck doing this myself because I can't find any home repair services.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I can confirm, it's indeed very tight. You may indeed have to pull the hydraulic pump out. I believe you already needed to pull the suction pipe, so that would help a little bit with the pump too.

If you end up taking the pump out, I suggest that you apply light coat of grease or anti seize on the splines before putting it back on. This should make the splines last longer as they're assembled dry.

Thank you very much for the quick and helpful reply. Do you know if when I pull the pump that the hydraulic fluid would all drain out? I'm not a mechanic at all but it seems to me I may need to capture the fluid in the pump and some from the pipe. Is that the case or do I need to drain all of the fluid first?

Thanks again for your help. 🙂

It will let a little bit of fluid out, whatever amount is inside the suction hose and the pressure hose on the bottom.

The pumps are actually above the oil level, so you shouldn't have to drain the entire system, unless you need to fully remove the suction pipe that goes under the transmission to the filter housing. If you need to remove the suction pipe, you'll need to drain the system. It holds about 9 gallons even though you won't be able to drain it all, so it'll be less.

Try to cap any lines and exposed ports so you don't get any trash or dirt in the pump or in the fluid.

Either way, it may be better to have some big drain pans on stand by just in case. We all know how a simple project can turn into a massive mess, specially with hydraulics. :)
