I have a L3940 4WD that has developed a small oil leak in the left front Bevel Gear Case. Has to be the "O" ring or the oil seal inside the case. The tie rod end has to be removed to get the Bevel Gear Case off. My question is about removing the tapered tie rod end and ball. Is there any way to remove it without doing any damage to it? It's in good shape and I would like to save it.

Or you can use a BFH (big f-n' hammer) actually I use two, place one against the side of the boss the tie rod passes though and then hit it with the other. A few good shocks will loosen the tie rod and nothing ever touches the tie rod.
