Removed a huge stump with my BX24 today.

I took a pic of it with my cellphone and if I can figure out how to post it I will later. I tried to remove it in the fall after I cut the tree down. The tree was only about 18 inches across but it really was wide at the ground level. I worked on it in the fall and there was absolutley no movement. Today I went out there at about 2 PM and by 4 PM I had removed it, buried it and had levelled the ground above it. **** this little tractor and backhoe/FEL is really useful.

Congrats!! It's always fun to do useful things with your tractor. I removed a bunch of stumps last year. Have a bunch to do this year too. I just got the ripper from Bro-tek, and can't wait to see how fast it'll remove those stumps now!

This is a safety tip for anyone pushing over trees or cutting up wind blown trees . This is one i pushed over with my excavator . nearly all tree stumps with a large amount of soil on the root ball will stand back up when the trunk is cut through . Most of the time you start your cut with the top edge of the chainsaw bar under the trunk . Cut upwards about one third of the way and then cut from the top down . As the root system acts as a counterweight it will try and stand back up and the cut your making will open up . I have used the bucket to stop this in this case , but i have seen them stand up with astonishing speed which throws the saw in the air and can easily kill . Keep this in mind if you do'nt have a machine to hold the root ball , and make sure your area of retreat is clear .

Thats a good tip....I will be doing a few of these this spring to clear out the trail system in my back woods.
