Has anyone ever tried or considered this?
I've heard horror stories of some people trying to remove tires off
of rims, I just purchased a set of 8/16's R1 for the front, their new and
came on a set of rims i don't need. The task at hand now is,
to remove them from the rim's, remove my old one's, and install.
I happened to look in back yard and glanced over at my 'wood splitter"
Then I thought, hey, why not put the tire on top, and use the splitter to break the bead's.
put some sorta block of wood as to not damage the tire.
What do you think, has this been done before, successfully.

the tires will simply roll over at the beads , there has to be a finger to get between the tire and the rim to work properly .....

go to princess auto ( or on line ) and buy the tire bead breaker ( about $60 ) or go to a tire shop...

I have used my loader bucket next to the rim on my r-4's. Just be careful not to hurt the sidewall on the tires you want to keep. If you are careful and have the time , try it.

I wouldn't lay them "flat",
Stand them up.

I expected you to stand them up ....

the side walls will still roll or collapse before the beads break ... and you can damage the belts in the process

go ahead if you want to , they are your tires / rims ....

I've never tried a logsplitter. But I do use the tongue jack on my trailer to break beads with.

I have the trailer hooked to the truck and then set the tire under the jack and start jacking the trailer up until the bead breaks loose.

Sometimes I have to stand on the other side of the tire to keep it from coming up as well. But this method always seems to work for me.

Take the valve core out-put tire flat on driveway soap on bead. Put tractor on top of one side of tire and back your truck up on the tires other side. You still will need tire irons to get it off. Go to your independent garage. Cheaper and safer.

Just this week I had to break down, repair and remount one of my front tires TWICE due to some rough bush hogging.

I used the FEL to break the beads and two flat crow bars and a big flat screw driver to do the rest. There might have also been a 1/2 bottle of dish soap involved but if my girlfriend asks I'll deny knowing anything about its disappearance.

lol,,
Well, I'll be giving it a shot today or tomorrow and let you know how it went.

I have some old pieces of broken leaf springs i can use as side wedges up against the beads.

something like this shape,,,(.

I have heard of the other method's, jack's, bucket's etc, etc, just never heard of "woodsplitter".
