I have a 1995 2120 New Holland tractor. I need to replace the ignition switch. I unscrewed the outer locking ring but something is keeping me from removing the switch. Any ideas?

If I remember right, the back of the ignition switch is threaded and match-notched to the sheet metal side panel. A retaining nut is screwed from the back so you can either pull the dash or center panel for access to the back of the switch. Access from the dash is easier because you can work from the tractor seat.

One thing to check if you are chasing a starting problem. My NH 1920 has serious problems in the wiring harness due to age degradation of the wiring. I have resorted to a push-button shunt from the starter battery post to the solenoid to bypass the wiring harness. Not the safest fix but beats hours and frustration in chasing electrical gremlins.

Do you really need to replace?
If it is generally simply intermittent it just might be dried up lubricants that the switch folks use.
Squirt WD40 into the key slot usually cures that problem.
Squirt and wiggle the key a few times and your problem might just go away.
Lots of folks have experienced this miracle cure. (WD40 is non corrosive)
