Have you been reloading 410 shells? I have a few shells and my daughter would like to have some for her gun. I only have pistol and rifle powder. I can't find my reloading manual. My father used to load 12ga putting a wad on top.[not crimping the shell] I don't know if they sell cardboard wads now.
What do you do?

If you can't get an answer on this site, try Graybeard.com. There are thousands of reloaders on that site and I'm sure you can get an answer.

ToadHill, Thanks, I will. I've been digging out my reloading equipment haven't got it all together yet, it is stored in ammo containers, I've found several, in two different caches. Haven't reloaded this century and part of the last sounds funny but true.

I use a Mec 600 jr. for the Plastic hulls.

I have a nice roll crimper but haven't tried it out yet.

For most of my .410 shooting around the farm I use brass hull's or cases.

Magtec makes brass .410 cases for reloading, I bought mine at Midway.

I also use 444 Marlin cases, and .303 British cases.

The slower pistol powders work well for the .410 like 296 or 2400.

You can buy nitro , filler and over shot cards or buy a couple belt or arch punches and make your own.

I don't have the links handy but you can go to Shotgun World in the reloading forum and search and read for hours on reloading the .410, if you would be interested in reloading the brass shells while there search for post's by Turbo 1889, he has made some very informative well written posts on the subject.

Have fun

No wad on top anymore, typically. Using Winchester AA or Remington STS hull 2 1/2" (all plastic, one-piece) and a one piece plastic wad with approx. 14.5 gr. of H110 with a 209 primer and 1/2 oz. of #9's or #8 1/2 will do most things that you can do with the small bore. But please - don't take my word for this load - look it up, be safe, and make sure to double check the data.

Greetings, Just got here for the first time in days. Thanks for posting. I like the idea of the brass. You know the other day as I was gathering reloading stuff I saw an empty 303 and noticed it had a sholder and wondered if they could be used, should be fairly easy to get a few. Do you reshap or resize them? Thanks Richard

I reload 410 and 12g. The 410 is much harder to do a quality reload on because of the crimp. I even bought an expensive roll crimper that chucks in a drill, it does better but still not as good a job as I can get on a 12g.
The brass shells are great, no crimp, I just glue a wad in the end. Of course that can be done on the plastic shells too, just a little harder to get glue to adhere well to the plastic.
Circlefly has all sorts of 410 reloading stuff. Be aware you need bigger diameter wads for the brass shells as they are thinner walled.

I too reload .410, using a Mec 600 Jr and the Lyman Shotshell reloading handbook data. If you don;t have this book you should buy it. I use Winchester plastic hulls and either Winchester or generic copy plastic wads. I have gotten 4-5 reloads on some cases before the plastic splits at the crimp.

I am using #6 shot which in hindsight is a bit too big to consistently run through the charge bar with such a small load. If I ever use up this bag I'll go with 7 1/2 next time. I use .410 for both bird hunting a trap shooting, so reloading really saves alot of $$$.

I don't know what would be involved with converting .303 British brass to be used in a .410 shotgun, but as a point of trivia, many .303 Lee Enfields that were worn out after WW 2 had their barrel bored out and were used as a bolt action .410 shotgun with little to no other modifications. Kind of heavy just to shoot small game, but a neat idea.

Thanks for the info, We've been up to our necks in snow, still a good bit here. I bought a few boxes of 4/10 so the girls will be able to fire a few rounds. Than we will can reload the shells. I won't crimp, I'll use a paper wad, I think.
