My 2520 backhoe and loader have been sitting for the last couple of months, so yesterday when I went to remove the plow and put these implements back on I had a tough time getting the hydraulics reconnected. The implements had shifted slightly and created some pressure in the hoses that was resisting the internal shutoff value and preventing the quick connector from seating properly. I finally tapped the end with a hammer a couple of times and then they seated properly.

Is there a better way?

I always just took a clean shop towel and put a couple of thickness over the end of the ball and hit it with a piece of wood, like a handle of a hammer, this prevents the spray from going in your face, and reduces the likelyhood of grit damaging the surface of the ball. You could probably make some kind of clamp depressor with another female fitting, but I just used the tap/towel method

It can get bad enough that you have to crack open a fitting with wrenches. On my hoe it was disconnected on a cold day and reconnected on a hot one. The hammer trick didn't do it.
