Any ideas for an implement that will scarify cattled woodland soil a little, to help acorns take root, etc. but is small enough to pull behind a 650 ATV?

Could you explain what "cattled woodland" is??

If you are trying to get acorns to grow... typically squirrels plant them sufficiently that they root and grow... are you seeking to do something else??

A small disk pulled behind the ATV might work, but anything that really bites into the soil is likely to be too much for the ATV:confused:

All of my woods used to have cattle in them... Trust me, you don't need to do anything... Mother Nature will take care of it herself.

What you'll really need is a bushhog so you can cut trails through it after it grows up.

Same here... We just bought it 3 years ago, but cattle have been gone for 25 years. Bushhog is a must, as there is lots of thicket (it was left to grow naturally), but the trees are doing fine.

Especially if it has a variable transmission like the Polaris line. My brother pulls a powered bushhog with his and ended up melting down the cover over the spools, i'd hate to see what something that engages the ground would do.

The farm has mostly mature trees, as a result of a lot of cattle grazing and compacting the soil, so that there is lots of shade and little young growth. One of my nature-savvier friends suggested that roughing up the ground would speed up the process of acorns, etc. taking root. So far, my idea has been to find a few teeth from an old dump rake and make a small implement to be towed by an ATV. I have a similar woods that had been grazed, and after 8 years there is still little new growth.
