Put down my asphalt millings yesterday and rolled them with my 2500# ride on roller. I went over it many times. Watered the driveway this morning and rolled again. 85 degrees out now and rolled it again. I cannot tell where I have or have not been. These millings are not like fresh asphalt so I would expect there is no cure time. The very top is a little loose like fine gravel. If I seal it now I would think that would stop it tracking into my house. What should I seal it with? I am not using diesel fuel or oil. I think it is as hard as it is going to get so want to finish it up and have it look nice. Wife is already sick of the stone on my shoes. I come in and out about 100 times a day. Should I seal it or have it sprayed the first time?

If you DIY, it's gonna cost you about $350. A 55gal drum from Homedepot.com commercial grade and a proper squeegee should give you one coat. Might want to put a second coat on the first time to bind it up good. I would do it now (summer) while it is hot and dry.

Latex-ite 55 Gal. Commercial Grade Blacktop Sealer-7355 - The Home Depot

Thats right about what I figured but the question then is when and what sealer will hold down the loose top? Driveway is hard except the stone at the top. I can roll everyday if I need to but would prefer to be done with it.

Get an asphalt paving contractor to spray seal it. ( they should know the type of sealer. Not hardware store sealer). Then cover it with a skim of light sand to keep your floors happy!

I am leaning this way. I know nothing about millings. Now the question is when? I put it down yesterday. I do not think it needs to cure like fresh asphalt.

I was reading up on the subject and apparently the HD commercial grade that comes in the 55gal drum is suppose to have better filling properties than the 5gal consumer version. I have a carport about half the size you are talking about, and I am debating DIY vs. bidding it out to reseal. I can't argue with having a licensed contractor do it, and spare you the time and mess not to mention experience. It's a financial call really. If it costs more than double to hire it out, I know what I would do.

As far as spraying vs. rolling or squeegee, my vote is for the latter... much better fill.
