New Holland TZ25
I have a 25hp New Holland TZ25 subcompact with 700lb lifting force on the Cat 1 hitch.

I am looking for a rear blade with angle, offset and tilt for grading a driveway with a crown (it is steep in places).

If you have such a system, I would appreciate knowing your experience, your blade make, model, weight and length. Any handling issues etc.

Thanks, Dave

I bought a Rhino 300 model...for my original SCUT BX...length 5 ft, weight 269 lbs, tilt to 15 ", offset 12 " manually, pivot up 45 degrees. The 5 foot witdth will clear the rear tires if you want to turn it 180 degrees for pushing backwards. You might consider a 6 foot blade for your work, except it will not clear your tires at 180 deg.. most likely. And for the considerable usage you plan heavier is better for grading. I never used the offset or tilt on the Rhino, and just used it for moving snow along with the FEL. Hope this helps.

Welcome to TBN, Dave. Here is what I recommend. The back blade is an integral part of my maintenance package for my mile long gravel driveway. I use the back blade in the winter to remove snow. I used it for summer maintenance up until last year when I purchased a grading scraper(Land Pride GS2584). I also have a roll over box blade(Bush Hog RO720). The box blades moves large quantities of gravel/dirt from here to there. The grading scraper is used to fill potholes, remove ripples, fill low spots and maintain the crown and side ditches. The grading scraper is by FAR the best summer maintenance implement. The back blade will follow the contour of the driveway rather than leveling the contour. As heavy as the back blade is - it still bounces and giggles as I pull it down the driveway and leaves a very rippled surface. And my ROBB simply moves great quantities of material to low spots.

My back blade is Land Pride - RB3596 - weighs 565lb and is 96" wide. My rear tire width is 80" - the 96" width of the back blade is necessary to offset and angle the blade and still have a wide enough cut swath to cover the 80" width of the rear tires. This is the one implement where I feel you do need to cover the rear tire width. Remember when plowing snow you will probably be offset and angled so an 80 inch back blade will no way cover the 80 inch width of the rear tires. There are many quality implement available - I recommend you buy the widest and heaviest unit that your tractor can handle and your pocket book can afford. Added cost will soon be forgotten when you see what implement quality can do for you.

Welcome to TBN David,
I would doubt you have enough tractor to benefit much from an offset capable rear blade. I would suggest a slightly wider blade instead as that would be easier to keep straight. I would recommend a 5' or 6' rear blade with a maximum weight of about 500 lbs. More than that would stop you in your tracks. Same is true for a landplane grader blade about 500 lbs is about maximum.

Our 5' Value Scrape Blade would be a great match for your tractor. It has tilt, angle and offset capabilities.

Thanks for this oddballs, I appreciate this information. Does your subcompact have any trouble handling a blade that size and weight? Would a subcompact be able to manage a longer, heavier blade than yours? By the way, I do have a FEL to help with the balance. Thanks again, Dave

It appears that you have to unbolt/rebolt the moldboard in order to offset the rhino blade, whereas, with the ETA Value blade, you simply pull a pin and swing it over.

FWIW, my little 19 hp Kubota handles a pretty solid John Deere 5' blade with no problems. I have no idea what it weighs, but it is an older, well built blade. No tilt or offset, but of course you can adjust the arms for a bit of tilt either way.

My 5' blade I bought and used on my 4010 has all those features; I believe. It's a Frontier. Very light weight and cheap: $250.
