Just got offered good size job turning an acres of weeds & crabgrass into new lawn. Plan was to spray, then harley-rake the trash off. Just out of curiosity, I was looking at small hydroseeder units like this one:

600 gallon easy lawn hydroseeder

Would love to spend less than that. Just want something to slide up into truck bed to use 5-10 times per year. Tired of seeding & worse, strawing the newly seeded areas.

After reading this, I looked and was surprised to see that these things have a pretty small coverage area. Small enough that one acre would be 5 or 6 refills  Any way to sub out the hydro-seeding? Maybe just use a straw blower?

how many sq.ft. do you plan on spraying each job and will there be any steep slopes?

Probably 1/4-1 acres ata time. Slopes could be steep at times. I was planning on buying one that could be strapped down to a trailer and hauled to jobsite, nothing permanently mounted. I used to run a huge hydroseeder mounted on 33K GVW IH chassis. That thing could cover some area fast.

that is a good priced unit you have in your original post. coverage should be around 7000-8000 sq.ft. per load. you won't be able to shoot the heavy erosion control blends but it will be fine for most uses. if you go this route you might also consider getting a 1000 gal. nurse tank to put in the bed of your dump. this would allow you to have the water to do close to a half acre on site. filling tanks takes time which slows you down. with this system you should be able to do an acre a day. easy lawns have a good rep for a jet machine. turbo turf makes some good jet machines as well.
good luck,

I've had a 500 gal Turbo Turf for more then 10 years and no problems at all other than replacing the discharge hose once. Sun made it hard and got a couple leaks in it. Super machine, well made and does a great job. They said it should do 6600 sq. ft. but I usually get about 5500 sq. ft. and figure jobs based on that. Use 2 1/2 bales 70/30 paper/woodfiber mulch, 50# starter fert and 40# seed per load.
