Hi, please forgive my ignorance, totally new to tractors and their workings so may use words I don't actually understand.

I am looking at buying a JD 4115 with loader & cab, looks to be ideal for what I want apart from one thing that may be handy and I wanted to ask/check, I don't believe it has a spool valve at the back (aka SCV I think)

Am I right in saying that if I wanted to hire/use a post knocker then this tractor needs a hydraulic spool valve to power it? I presume the spool valve powers the lift on the knocker somehow, would I be right in saying that this can be overcome by a JD aftermaket Power Beyond Port kit, if so is there is specific part number or is the kit quite universal.

What I really would like to know is if the PB kit is a solution and if so should I just contact my local JD garage and ask for a quote for fitting it. Wanted to check here first so that I don't totally embarrass myself as a newb when contacting them, thanks in advance.

:welcome: to the forum.

Power beyond kit may be in order to run the post knocker (call 'em a post driver here).

But that would depend on the design of the post knocker, I'd think.

A power beyond kit might not be available any longer through Deere. But it would be a good thing to check out. Same might be true on the availability of a 3rd SCV.

Use jdparts.com to get a kit number, or possibly just buy the individual parts to assemble the kit.

The post drivers I've seen have their own valve. They connect only one hose to the tractor's SCV for supply then have a much bigger hose that is put into the hydraulic fill cap, because of the large volume of hydraulic oil that quickly returns.

That said, I think either an SCV (selective control valve) or Power beyond would work. You just have to determine which you will get the most use out of and check the cost of each. I would go with SCV. Watch ebay for kits.

I like calling it a post knocker better than a post driver. Sounds more fun. Knocker is just a fun word. Think about it.
