I'm considering building / buying a three point log splitter, plus I'd like to have a hyd top link some day. For now just doing some research.

On the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.dot.state.mn.us/equipment/contracts/tr_cpt_utl/43.pdf>Minesota pricing TC21 pdf</A> there is a single spool rear remote valve factory code 000046M000 ref number 718348006 for a whopping $597! The prices for a single spool rear remote on the TC25 are $200.

I also found <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.dot.state.mn.us/equipment/contracts/tr_cpt_utl/74a.pdf>New holland backhoes pdf</A> a hydraulic kit for the backhoe, factory code 000013M100 ref 715429006 for $170. I'm guessing this is some kind of "power beyond" that the backhoe attaches to, I'd need to supply my own spool valve.

I'm hoping the $597 is a typo, but I kind of like the backhoe option, as I could rig as many spool valves to that as I wanted. Hmmm, top & tilt!

Wonder if I could Tap into the loader supply somehow.

I'll give my dealer a call... I always like to check here first.

$600 was the price I was quoted by my dealer too.

Put a call into my dealer, The parts guy couldn't sell it to me because it was considered a whole good, but did tell me it was $500 or $600. He knew because he has a TC18 too.

Then I talked to the salesman. He's looking into the exact price, but thinks it was quite expensive. He recommended a PTO pump for a log splitter to reduce cycle time.

I asked about the Backhoe hydraulic kit. It is a bunch of hose/pipe/fittings that plumb the oil from the return on the loader spool at the front of the tractor, to a quick connect at the rear for the hoe. The return for the hoe then dumps back into the rear end sump of the tractor via another quick connect.

I'm thinking a fender mounted spool valve is the way to go, especially for $600 vs $300 ($170+ valve & a couple hoses). For $300 savings I'll deal with the rat's nest + ability to have more than one circuit. Plus if the planets align & I win the lottery, I'd be $170 closer to getting a backhoe!

Actually wouldn't even need the valve to run the splitter, as it would have its own.

I purchased a regular log splitter for a couple of hundred more. It saves a lot of time on the tractor and it stays by the wood pile all of the time. By the time you figure the rear remotes it is the same price.

Dumbdog,

I came to a similar realization when I was looking for a water pump to irrgate. A PTO pump just didn't seem smart. Self contained is good. I reserve the tractor for mobile work and try to get self contained for stationary stuff ( generator, pump, etc )

Hazmat,

I am also looking for a remote upgrade. Currently I have two sets but need a third.

The parts cost ~$500 as a kit from my dealer. Thats for a TN70D but I bet works for all the TN series and is very simliar to your machine. Extra $100 plus for install but I think this would be an easy do it your self project.

The $500 is a bit much in my opinion so I am looking at other options.

Add a vlave is one posisbility but the cost is almost as bad at ~$400. http://www.commandcontrols.com/catalog.htm

Fred,

I don't have any remotes right now.

One option that is uglier (oh maybe I should say less elegant) but cheaper than the vandminc add a valve, would be to plumb a two spool valve into the outputs of one of your remotes. The net result would be adding one (you loose the functionality of the remote you plumbed into).

This would mean a rats nest of hoses at the rear & on the fender of your tractor, but should be cheap. Northern has two spool valves for $150. Add some hoses <$100

You could go with one of the sectional valve setups, this way if you wanted to add more, you could easily do so.
