We purchased our First Choice GM35-84 rear finish mower in 2002. I think it was made by Sicma in Italy.
It was our third rear finish mower and have expected it to last the remainder of my life. First two were Woods and Bush Hog.
We have worn out, and replaced, maybe, four sets of blades, and one set of solid tire wheels plus one belt set.
Lately, we noticed it looks like one side is cutting shorter than the other side.
1. Installed new set blades, still same problem.
2. Set mower down on level concrete floor.
3. It shows to be level from side to side, across top of frame that wheels mount to.
4. Deck measures same height from floor on both front and rear corners.
5. Stretched string across under deck in line with outside spindles.
6. Two outside blades measure 5/8" higher on outside than inside. Measures same when blades rotated 180 degrees.
7. Removed drive belts to check play in bearings, left side tight, right side can move outside blade tip up & down, maybe 1/8".
8. With level on each drive pulley, it shows off level in the same direction as the blade showed with the string.(up on both outsides)
My thinking is that all three blades should be level.
Only way we could get above stats, is the deck is bent at spindle mounts.
Cure would have to be either shim spindle mounts back to level or bend deck at spindle mounts back to level. I lean towards bending deck back to level.
Another question is, if both outside blades are cutting higher on the outside, why does my grass cut look different height at edge of each pass?
Has anyone had similar problems or have any suggestions for something we might be missing?
Thanks,
