Is it a problem mowing existing lawn every six to eight weeks with a rear finish mower? If the grass is six to eight inches tall will it plug easily? I would rather have a finish mower than a brush hog, just think I would get more use out of it, but not sure how it works on taller grass. I would only mow when the grass is dry.

There shouldn't be any problems, but you may have to set the RFM as high as possible (meaning you may have to cut the area twice to get the grass height you want) and you may be going pretty slow (at least in some areas). You'll want to keep those blades sharp too.
Just remember an RFM is a finishing mower. It's not built for field use. As long as the area you're cutting is just grass, you should be OK...otherwise, you could destroy a rather expensive implement.

As far as a cutter...keep an eye on your local Craigslist. Used cutters aren't too expensive (might not be pretty though).
