On my new to me B7610 am having to work in some pretty slippery stuff and am trying to get the diff lock for the rear to stay engaged without having to keep my left heel pushing down. The darn thing is in a pretty hard place to even get one's heel into and then to have KEEP pushing down is next to impossible. Is there a lock for keeping it down that I am someway missing?.........thanks......God bless.......Dennis

They are deliberately made to NOT lock on... It is easy to damage the system on hard surfaces and when turning with it locked... KennyV

It's also easy (enough) to damage them when engaging - don't stomp on it (especially under power)

I depress the pedal (carefully) on my B2910 with just enough pressure to put it down until it stops .... usually this is done while stopped (because I've lost traction) and then apply a little HST pedal and wait until it finds engagement before depressing the diff lock pedal the rest of the way to fully engage.

You sure do not want it to stay locked.. Here, study this photo and thread discussion to understand how it works and how delicate and easy to tear up the mechanism is. You want to operate it like rswyan said.. easy does it, don't be spinning when you stomp it. let the splined toothed coupler engage gently and let it come disengaged when you are back moving again. Or else you will be like lots of new posters, with the post. "my differential lock does not work, How come?"

Thanks Guys....REALLY.........I ask because it is so HARD to hold that pedal down for any distance........

Would NEVER:
Engage on pavement....why would you need it?
Stomp or apply heavy foot.......
Spin tires while engaging

I ask because my RTV has a lock for the rear diff. and was hoping/dreaming that someway one could do it on this great tractor because, again, it is so difficult to hold the pedal down........

Anyway.......THANKS.........God bless.........Dennis

Your best bet is to replace the spring that holds the pedal up with a weaker one. There was a thread on how to do it but I don't think it was on the 7610. Just remove the spring and measure the length of it and the diameter of the wire. You can order a new spring from McMaster/Carr. You may need to buy several different weights to get one that you like. Just make sure to put the old spring back on while waiting for the new one.
