RE: Kubota cruise control

I thought that stepping on the brake did not disengage the cruise control. As it turns out, after further testing, it does in fact move the lever back when you step on the brake. It does take quite a bit of pressure on the pedal--you almost have to stand on it, and it just about stalls the engine before the lever moves.

But it does!

I wish mine didn't, so I could use my steering brakes. Also wish it worked in reverse when I am snowblowing.

Hmmmm... My Brother's L3240 does not disengage the cruise if you only step on one brake. Step on both and it goes off. But then it's done electrically and doesn't move the lever.

My old B2910 didn't kick it off. Brake pedals were on the right. I'd use the cruise lever for forward movement and that freed my right foot to run the brakes individually. It was all mechanical.

I'll have to check again ovrsd.....maybe I didn't try it with the pedals unlocked? Thanks.

I don't have that problem with mine it's a gear tyranny :) cruise lever/throttle lever stays put. I have nothing serious to offer for this one

This is one example where the gear will do something that HST will not. Operate "cruise" in reverse. My Kioti won't do it either, even though it is all elecrical, because the cruise magnet actually "sticks" the forward pedal arm to the magnet when it is energized. The reverse pedal is does not have a magnet near it to stick to. It could have I suppose if you wanted to redesign it. But that magnet is pretty large and healthy. Of course your gear rig has to have enough reverse speeds to find the right ground speed for the tractor while operating the blower at the effective speed. I am sure most larger tractors with shuttles would have, but I can tell you my old B7500 with its 6x2 did not, both reverse gears would have been too fast.

Re: Kubota cruise control

Dave, when I'm doing loader work or piddling around I never use the hand throttle, control all my speed with the foot throttle. Our tractors have enough low end torque/HP to do most work at an idle or just above. I only use the hand throttle for PTO work or if roading a long distance.

James, yeah the shuttle/gear tractors run the same speed forward or reverse. If I'm doing repeat work in a short area I don't even turn the tractor around, just shuttle into reverse and go back to the pile or whatever.

Both systems, HST and Gear have their place. In my size tractor I don't think I'd like HST at all. On the other hand, my Brother's HST L3240 fits nicely.

Agreed. If doing loader work I perform similarly I set the throttle at 1200 - 1300 rpm so that when I'm off the throttle my hydraulics still move adequately. Most of the time I I wouldn't exceed 1500 rpm unless I'm brush hoging or moving somewhere quickly in a given gear

Hey ovrszd, thanks!! I tried the steering brakes and they work with the cruise.

No worries. That's why I like this place. If you keep an open mind, you can always learn something new!!! :)
