Re F6640 Alternator problem

Well it looks like the alternator now is on its way out. Tack started not working all the time and voltage spikes and pins volt meter at over 16 volts but only at around 1500 rpm. Rev it up to over 2000 rpm and voltage drops back to 13.9 volts and tack works fine. The differential lock light is stuck on also and the diff is not locked I don't know if this is connected to the alt problem or not. Any ideas? sounds like I should bite the bullet and start by ordering new alternator.

Repair old unit at an alt/starter/gen shop.. or new/reman?? from dealer?

After over a week We finally got Alt replaced. First one sent to me was a 75 amp, wrong. It turns out this one is a 100 amp so the cost was higher but at least it is charging ok, the tach is working ok and no more red light issues. One other thing we noticed is the hour meter hasn't moved more than 7 tenths since the alt started acting up, were hoping the new alt cures this problem also.

The differential light is still stuck on though so that must be another issue. We are planning on checking all the grounds and connections again tomorro. anyone else have any other Ideas??

One last note if anyone is using a 7411 Quick attach loader check your attaching bolts. On our F6640SLwe found the left 2 up under the cab missing and the right 2 up under the cab loose only held in by a hydraulic line that ran by them. Also the 2 rear bottom bolts one was missing and the other loose. These are all 3/4" grade 8 bolts with lock washers. This would have given us a real great day if we hadn't caught thems. We checked the boomer and the other loader we have and there were no apparent problems like this.
