The Operator's Manual for my Kubota RCK60-24B MMM says on page 23, " DANGER To avoid serious injury or death: Never operate the mower in transport position. "

I would like to use the MMM to mow a pasture, as high as possible. With the MMM pinned up in the transport position, it should cut at about 5" (if my memory is correct).

Does anyone know the reason for this warning? Has anyone tried mowing in the transport position? If so, any problems with equipment or safety? Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Rusty

I've used it that way to keep a small area neat, but high, on our property. The warning may be due to the fact that it's much easier to get something "inappropriate" under the deck in this position. (Including someone's foot)

Before you start to mow in the transport position look underneath the tractor and make sure that there are no impingments on any moving parts. I have a cab with a heater that is mounted at the back of the cab....when I mowed with the deck fully raised I managed to slice thru one of the heater hoses with the deck's fanbelt.
Also , if you mow at the extened height, there is no place for the deck to go if you hit something. All of the play in the mower's linkage is gone....if the ground is smooth you might get away with it....good luck!

Rusty,
While I don't know how similar the decks are, I mow my pasture regularly in the 'top' position and also with the deck fully raised. I checked with the dealer and he said that was fine, but you raise the possibility of kicking something out from under the mower. This is on a BX2200 with about 150 hours of mowing on it. In the fully raised position, it's quite easy to mow a 4 foot high field, even when it's wet.

I do that. The concern is is that it will throw debris. My 2410/BX do fine in the locked position. J

Thanks for the comments, everyone! I will be trying mowing in the transport position myself, as soon as I can get past one problem - my mower deck does not come up high enough! It appears to fall about one inch short of the two pin holes lining up (which would loose one inch mowing height). I suspect there is something wrong with the initial adjustment. I will be contacting my dealer, tomorrow. Thanks, again. Rusty /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Rusty, in all likelyhood your deck will never come all the way up even with those holes. Mine stops about 1/2 inch short after much adjusting on my part. From there I rock one side up and pin it and then the other--no big deal. If you get it to come all the way up and still lower and hang in the mowing position correctly you or he is a better mechanic than me cuz I tried awfully hard. I think with some fidjeting you can do a little better than 1 inch though but not much. Another reason the BX is a far better mower. J

The saga continues - I adjusted the turnbuckles for the connecting rods today. I was able to get the pin holes to align, insert the clevis pins (although in the opposite orientation from the manual), and insert the hair pins - OK. What I found is that the rear of the mower deck drops about one inch, when the three-point arms are dropped. Maybe that is why this is a transport position, and not a mowing position. I think that my fix will be to keep the three-point up, try not to bump it, and check it often. I also found that with the rear of the mower deck held up, the deck contacts the left rear tire. I guess that I will move that wheel out to the next axle position. At least, I'm getting to know my tractor and deck!!! Rusty /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
