2011 Chicago Auto Show: Ram Increasing Heavy Duty Diesel Power Ratings - PickupTrucks.com News

I was hoping Dodge wouldn't need to jump on the HP wars of the Heavy Duty segment but it is nice to see them easily go to the top again.
It's still the TRIED AND PROVEN CUMMINS 6.7l and still DOES NOT REQUIRE UREA. Everyone knew that engine has the capability of producing this power with very little tweaking. I bet it will still be a 350k mile motor which is more than can be said for the other two diesels. I hope it gets the 8-speed auto or Aisin built 6-speed too.

Max towing capacity: 22,700lbs * Highest 5th tow capacity of 1-ton trucks! (The 24,500 lbs tow capacity of the F450 doesn't count Chris. :D)

Also, the HEMI powered HD RAM gets a heavy duty oil cooler and class 4 hitch rated at 10,400 lbs and 20 mpg for $22k.

Oops, GCWR. :ashamed:
I'm not surprised you would jump all over it.

Max HP stays the same at 350 but peaks sooner and max TQ looks to still be right around 1500-1600rpms. I wonder how it will hurt fuel mileage...?

Cant wait to see it. If they can get the interiors on par, the rusting issue taken care of, and a few other minor items I would be in line to buy. I like the Cummins and the looks of the Dodge. With a better tranny and the other items fixed it could be a winner.

Funny because the interior is all new and spoken with in high regards when comparing layout, fit & finish and materials used. Also, any truck has a "rusting issue" when not taken care of. My 8 yr old RAM spent it's entire life in the snow-belt of northern New England and doesn't have a spot of rust on the sheet metal and only surface rust on the frame.

Lastly, the six speed auto has proven to be very reliable since it's introduction unlike the Ford torqueshift which is already showing mass problems with owners even with many here on this forum. And now the RAM transmission has a new torque converter, revised shift points, stronger rear axle and better rear differential cooling.

It's nice to see that Dodge is finally stepping back up to the plate with the 6.7 Cummins. Would've rather seen them put the Aisin 6 speed behind the 6.7 rather than an updated version of the 68rfe. It'll be interesting to see how it does in towing compared to the F-350/GM 3500's. Though, I'm pretty disappointed they didn't add urea injection to the engine, the fuel mileage will probably still suck compared to Ford and GM's offerings.

Well I will try to help in that ... mine is an 04, automatic. The past few days of bad nasty weather hauling hay to cows has cinched the dodge ram for me.

I pulled a 25' GN loaded with round bales of hay to the cow pasture, the last hill is pretty darn good and the Dodge, shifted into 4 wheel drive ... halfway up the wife says "we are not going to make it" ... I put the petal to her and the ice, snow, mud went to flying and then at the top the wife says ... "This is a monster truck" ... I'm sure other 4x4's would have done the same ... I sure like this Ram!!

The 8.9L Cummins ISL in our fire engine is only 350hp and ~1200ft/lb...

I liked my 3500 mega Cab dually, looked cool and I liked the interior, just too bad it didn't have the power or fuel mileage of my Ford.
