Oh.... one more thing!

Does anyone know where I might find a root rake that will fit on my FEL in place of the bucket?

I'm looking for something like the one in the attatchment but small enough to fit 1720 and the 7108 FEL.

seems like a removable tooth bar would be much simpler, one my tractors has permanent teeth on it which has worked great for dealing with brush, roots etc.

It's a Bolt-On Edge, a Tooth Bar and a Dirt Rake!
It's FFCs' New 3 in 1 Bucket Edge!!

As a bolt on edge, the 3 in 1 Bucket Edge adds strength to your bucket and protects your bucket from abrasive wear. It protrudes in front of your bucket to give better visibility of the front of your bucket edge. The 3 in 1 Bucket Edge also works great for clean up of hard surfaces. As the edge wears down, it can be turned over to add to its' life and durablity. It also weighs less than a normal bolt on edge. The Special steel is thinner, but stronger and much more abrasion resistant. A normal bolt on edge is thicker, heavier and more blunt, requiring the addition of a 'Tooth Bar' in order to dig or penetrate dirt.

The 3 in 1 is already a Tooth Bar and already on your bucket. The pointed serrated front edge cuts into and attacks hard dirt digging situations.

For raking/leveling dirt - Back drags dirt precisely where you want it, breaking up clods. You never need to take it off your bucket!
Available in Narrow or Wide Serrate!
NARROW - Recommended for WIDE - Fewer teeth creates better pennetration smaller machines up to 45 HP. for digging. This bar is designed to eliminate Mainly used for landscaping/ the need for a tooth bar and bolt on edge back dragging. combination. Wide teeth also add strength to accomodate bigger machines, also used for dragging and landscaping.
Comparison for a 72" bucket
Old Conventional Way New 3 in 1 Bucket Edge
3/4 x 8 bolt on edge - 6' 114 lbs. 72" - 3 in 1 Edge 65 lbs. Heavy Duty Tooth Bar 160 lbs. (This adds back over 200 lbs. of Total 274 lbs. capacity to your machine!)

Thanks for the responses guys!
del..... can you give me an idea how long the teeth are on the removable tooth bar you have? I've tried a bucket that had teeth on it but I still wound up with a lot of dirt in my brush piles because the teeth were so short....(about 6 inches long from the cutting edge).... that every time I rolled the bucket back to lift a tree to pile it, the bucket had lots of dirt in it. I even thought of buying an old bucket and cutting holes in it to let the dirt fall through. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I think they're closer to 8 or 10, but if you are just raking loose brush it works great, there are companies that make in bucket rakes that can be pinned up when not needed, and either easily re-pinned down or straight out, but they are not designed for digging in the dirt, and I would humbly caution you about driving forward with the any teeth straight down into the dirt, the loader is not a dozer, and the cylinders on the loader may bite you in the pocket book if you hit something that way with the cylinder extended, I've heard of guys ruining the "stops" inside the cylinder I think it is. They don't give those cylinders away. You'd be bucks ahead if you are trying to pull out roots to use a rear box with the scarifiers down. Or like the picture you? posted, a rake that hangs on the bucket, but the loader might not like the leverage on it. Again, just my humble mumblings from the school of hard knocks...

Those scarifiers on the box scrapers can pull up roots all day and not care.
dig on...

del....
8-10 inches might work better than what I was using before.
The stuff I'm piling is already pushed up. I have a JD 500C backhoe that I knocked everything down or dug it up with so I'm just lifting and piling the trees and brush with the 1720 because it's faster and more maneuverable than the old 500 backhoe. The problem comes when I have a tree lying flat on the ground and want to "scoop" or "curl" it up so I can carry it to the pile rather than push it all the way. I have to make my burn piles a good 100 yards away from most of the clearing I have done since the clearing is right beside 20 acres of planted pines and I don't want to chance a fire getting into them.

Del alludes to a tool called the "Progressive Bucket Rake", which he brought to our attention some time ago. Check out this thread to see some discussion on the subject, along with some pictures.

As far as I know, nobody on this board wound up buying one, so we have no first-hand reports. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

THANK YOU!!!!!!
I knew you guys would help me out. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

And that looks like something I could build rather than buy. In fact I did build something similar to attatch to the bucket that used the scarifiers from my box blade as the "teeth" but the scarifiers have too much of a "hook" on the end to work right. And I never thought of changing the angle of the teeth for different purposes. I'll let you know if/when I get it built and how it works.

My dog? I doubt it /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Mark -

I always thought scarifiers could be used for all kinds of interesting implements. They are rugged and not too expensive. I'd be interested in hearing about anything you come up with. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
