I'd forgotten how well this stuff works. Its been at least 10 years since I've used it. Yesterday I took one of our kids to college about 2 hours away (Purdue! Boiler Up!) About 20 minutes from the school, my wipers broke and it was raining pretty good. Limped into town very slowly with NO wipers, found her dorm and got her situated. A break in the rain allowed me to drive to Auto Zone and pick up a bottle of Rain-X and some towels. Dried the window off, applied as directed, but three coats, and drove home (after hugs and tears, of course :)). About 60 miles from home it starts pouring hard! I mean HARD! Turned out to be a record setting rainfall, up to 10" in some places. So, good test of the product for sure. Rain just beaded up and blew right off. Actually better with no wipers than with wipers in heavy rain because the right wiper didn't throw the water into the driver's field of view before being cleared by the left wiper. It just blows right off instantly! GREAT STUFF!!! Cars were driving past us with their wipers flapping and I could see perfectly. Only issue was when it got dark, and we had to slow under about 25mph for stoplights, glare from streetlights and headlights would be pretty bad in the beads that couldn't blow up or fall down at that one speed. Slower or faster and it worked great. Other than that, it saved my bacon and wife and other kid were impressed we got home so safely through 60 miles of hard rain with no wipers.

I highly recommend Rain-X.

Today, I found the nut that holds the rotating bracket to the motor shaft had fallen off, and the motor was very weak. 1993 Suburban. Motor in stock for $54.00 at Auto Zone. An hour under the hood and it's good as new.

I love that stuff too. It also helps keep the window cleaner and bugs wash off easily.

If we would EVER get some real rain here I might try the product. I wonder if Rain-X makes a dust repellent product - I should check.

I use the fill bottle in the washer reservoir, like you said, the wipers don't have to work as hard, one thing to watch out for is standing water, with the windshield being clear, it gives you somewhat of a "everything else is clear" feeling to.

(or should I say IF!!??)

I used to use Rain-X in the bathroom until we installed a larger vent fan,,,

I used to use RainX but I found that it causes a lot of skipping and noise when it starts to wear off AND it fogs badly behind the wipers when you need to use them. It is one of those products that requires you to keep using it forever. I finally found a product that would take it off and now just keep good blades on the cars.
In MossRoad's case, it was justifiable for on the road breakdown of the wipers. Maybe a small bottle kept in your emergency repair kit along with some old newspaper to apply it would be a good thing.

By the way, I have had that nut fall off also. I found it in the tray underneath the motor and reinstalled it and all was good.

What takes it off?

Apparently, it takes itself off. :) According to the MSDS, it's nothing more than a solvent that cleans the glass down to the molecular structure. And thus repels water by glass's silicon content. It's comprised of acetone and alcohols. How to you take that off? If you want to return the glass back to it's "original" dirty functions simply spray a little WD-40 and throw dirt on the windshield. :confused3:
