Radio installation

   / Radio installation #2
Basically, any radio will work. You will need 2 or 4 speakers (speakers may be 4 or 8 ohm depending on radio), and an antenna.
Wiring is pretty straight forward. Radios come with wiring instructions for the color coded wires.
1 wire to tractor battery plus side to retain memories stored in radio (Yellow)
1 wire to tractor keyed switch (only has power when key is on) (Red)
1 wire to tractor ground (Black)
Up to 8 wires for speakers LF +&-, RF +&-, LR +&-, RR +&- (See chart site below)
Some will also have a wire that can turn on an amplifier but no hookup required if you don't use an amp. (Blue or blue w/ stripe)
Here is the standard color codes for wiring most radios.

Great..My cab already has the speakers and associated wiring..I bought and screwed on the antenna mast today..Now I just need to know if that VW harness will fit my John Deere 5093E wiring plug..

I didn't realize you were trying to find out if that harness mates to the one on your tractor. I didn't bother looking for a mate to the harness on mine. I figured If I found a plug that looked similar to my tractor harness plug and bought it Murphy's law would come into play that it wouldn't fit and I'd have wasted money on a plug I couldn't use. Instead, I used the small red male spade crimp connectors on the ends of the wires coming out of the radio. I traced what each colored wire on the tractor harness went to and plugged in the appropriate male spade.

Wow..You are much more capable than I..If I tried that I'd either blow something up or burn something down..

The harness is correct and the radio will certainly work/fit.

Trying to help a friend with her 5095 with cab. Radio installed at dealership years ago and when she turns off tractor, radio station presets go away. Does anyone know which colored wire on the tractor harness has constant power. I need to hook up the radio's yellow wire to it, but was hoping someone would know which wire of the tractor is always hot. I suspect I can use a meter to find out, but is someone already knows. Thanks.

Or in a pinch, run a separate wire up from the battery, with a fuse in it.

Just some additional info. When I purchased my new JD 4320 with cab I purchased my own new radio versus the JD radio. I took the radio to the dealer to have it installed when they were prepping the tractor. My radio harness did not match up with the tractor radio harness. There was a speaker option that I had purchased with the tractor also. I then took a picture of the tractor connector and took my radio to the local audio dealer and he identified it as a VW connector also. He made me up a adapter connector/ harness to match my radio to the tractor connector / VW again / so that no wiring needed to be cut, all for about 30 dollars. That VW connector seems to be a standard for JD maybe. Later.
