I picked up a 7' rake for my TC40DA Friday at a local equipment/used tractor lot. I have a 1400' steep drive I've been trying to maintain with a back blade and box blade. I could tell on the first pass that the rake is the best and easiest tool I've used. I do plan on adding wheels and that should make it even better.

The driveway has a steep section from the road, with a 90 degree curve, then another long climbing section and another 90+ degree turn, before climbing to the house. The drive was put in about 50 years ago, so is stable.

My only major problem (assuming I keep the side ditches clean) is rookie drivers who spin tires as they round the first curve. Anyone have an idea of what I might mix with the gravel to create a more stable surface on the curve? Or am I better off not trying to fix it and just use the tractor time to fill/smooth holes on a regular basis?

Thanks,

Gravel drives with that much grade are a problem. Short of paving the only thing that helped on ours was using crushed gravel with a lot of gravel dust in it. The sharp edges and the dust lock together better so they do not move down hill as easily. Depending on local you hear this type of gravel called crusher run or road base.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid the typo in the title would make people wonder what I was talking about.

The drive is very steep and I suspect that you are correct about it being hard to fix. I may see if I can get some more gravel/dust on the curve. I've considered cutting that section and pouring a concrete base. I don't know if that help or just move the trouble spot to where the gravel and concrete meet.

Thanks,
