Couple of questions for those of you that can help me out with a few comments:

Is a rake really worth the effort or should I just stick with my box scrapper?

I need a posthole digger (well want a posthole digger). The soil I have is very rocky-- potato size and up. Is there a particular brand that you would recommend over another brand in this kind of soil? Also, most have a æ’*own pressure kit? but I have yet to see that one looks like, is this just simply a hydraulic ram that is pulling down on the posthole digger? This seems like a recipe for disaster unless you have 50 shear bolts on hand.

Thanks for taking the time to read, and I知 looking forward to your feedback.

As far as getting a rake, that's up to you. Each implement excels in a specific type of work to be done. Many can do several types of work, just not as good or as quick as another. Some people have several implements to work on the same project, just that the needs may vary enough so that multiple implements make life easier.

As far as a down pressure unit for a PHD, they work great. Actually hard to believe how well they do work. The down pressure kit is far from just a hydraulic pushing down on the auger. Here is Land Prides unit.

A landscape rake with gage wheels is a wonderful thing for smoothing an area or driveway. Mine gets very little use....because it does the job very quickly. It does a better job in 15 minutes than I could do in an hour with a loader bucket or box blade. I bought mine used a long time ago for $300. Like the salesman said, I could use it and probably sell it for what I had in it.

As for the PHD, hitting rocks can be a problem. I buy the shear pins by the pound :( In some areas, I average one shear pin per hole. I don't know what the solution is other than a hydraulic unit designed for going through rock.

I use my ETA Landscape Rake quite a lot for trail grooming and soil prep prior to sodding. The rake excels at removing trail/road crown to fill in low spots/ruts in sandy-loam soil. Good quality tool. I use the rake gauge wheels 80% of the time.

I also have a Box Blade. It requires more hours to learn Box Blade technique than rake technique.

I use them approximately the same number of hours.

I use a HYDRAULINK in lieu of Kubota Top Link with both Landscape Rake and Box Blade. Hydraulink is particularly helpful with the Box Blade.

You can revise TITLE for a short time, maybe three hours, by going to GO ADVANCED, then entering the TITLE Box to make revisions.

As part of my business I auger holes using an excavator and hydraulic auger. Hitting a rock even with my rig is a problem. I have to hand dig the rocks out if they are in the wrong position or much bigger than a potato. The biggest problem with 3 pth augers is they only go one direction. When they hook into a rock you can't reverse and then you have an auger stuck in the ground. To get it out you have to disconnect the auger and physically twist it backwards or even dig it out with a shovel. I'd rent or borrow one first to try out and see if it will work for you.
