So... I was clearing out an area of my woods tonight, and my tractor just up and shut down.

The sequence of events is as follows: I was running in first gear for about two hours (between 1000 and 1500 rpm) dragging trees, clearing brush, and making a pile. Since I was wrapping things up for the night, I dropped the throttle down to idle, pulled the emergency brake, dropped the bucket, and hopped off to grab the chainsaw. About three seconds after my feet hit dirt, the tractor just shut down. I hopped back on thinking it might be the seat switch, but no go... It would not even crank over.

I am thinking their is an electrical interlock issue somewhere, but other than the seat switch, this has never happened and I am unsure as to where to look.

Ideas?

Steve Y.

Btw, there are about 283 hours on the tractor...

Try wiggling the HST pedals when you try starting.

Did you accidentally leave a PTO on,

Push pedals as stated above,

Check fuse box for any blown fuses,

Did it run out of fuel by coincidence,

Ok, I wiggled the pedals, but no joy.

Though I never ran the PTO, I triple checked and confirmed it is off.

I also confirmed a half tank of fuel; both with the gauge, and by looking in the tank with a flashlight (not a lighter :)

Stupid question, where is the fuse box?

Also, since I lost my owners manual (wife cleaned the office), I am unsure as to what the indications are on the instrument cluster. What is the light just to the right side of the battery indicator? It is lit when the key is on... I checked the oil level and I am good there. Transmission fluid low indication? That being said, I do not know where the tranny fluid dip stick is. I tried to find it, but my flashlight died after I checked the fuel.

And it looks like I need to find a new owners manual, unless anyone knows where I can find a pdf...

If it doesn't turn over then hst pedal

I take it there is a switch under the floor board? Is it a normally open contact so I can just pull the plug and remove it from the circuit, or would I have to jumper the connector..?

More than anything i think the pedals get off center, so when you have your feet off, it still thinks you are going forwards or backwards.

As everyone says pedals and I know you've tried them, that's a typical cause.

For grins, throw it in neutral and try to start it.

Ok...

I found the neutral switch underneath the floor board and was able to get the tractor to start right up when I held in the microswitch. The lower arm portion of the forward HST pedal appears to be what engages the switch, but the arm is nowhere near it. Nothing looks bent, but I am going to have to look at things a bit more closely after work.

Thanks for the tip, everyone!!!
