I AM BUYING A M4800 WITH A 1002 LOADER. THE DEALER I AM BUYING FROM DOESNT HAVE ONE AND WILL NEED TO GET ONE FROM ANOTHER DEALER. HE HAS FOUND ONE BUT IT HAS R4 TIRES ON IT.I AM NOT FAMILAR WITH THEM, I KNOW THEY COST MORE AND HE IS NOT CHARGING FOR THEM.I WILL BE DOING LOADER WORK AND MOWING AROUND THE PLACE. THE TERRAIN IS MESQUITE AND LIVE OAK WITH A GOOD AMOUNT OF CACTUS.ONLY PLOWING 10 ACRES OF FOOD PLOTS. IS THIS THE WAY TO GO? HE WILL TAKE THEM OFF IF I WANT. THANKS /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Your conditions sound much like mine. For loader work, I prefer R4's, at least what comes stock. Tougher and handle th eload easier and considerably wider. There is no question R1's have greater traction. I have not run across many situations with my soil where this is an issue. I also know my old International 454 with R1's ate the turf up easier then my Kubota L3830 with R4's. I use the L3830 in 2WD when mowing almost exclusively. For a sturdier stock tire, the R4's are better. For the best stock traction, the R1's are better. For the best of all, Michelin's radial XM27's.

In your situation I would definitely go with the R4s. They will be more resistant to the thorns you will be dealing with. I purchased an L3130 last July with R4s and really like them. I traded in an IH444 with R1s which really tore up my place (all sand). R4s have better load ratings and with that stiffer sidewalls which resist the thorns better.

I have been thinking about the type of tires that I want to get, and maybe I can expand this topic a little rather than starting a new one.

I have been considering either the R4's (bar) or R3's (turf). During house construction, I will have the existing conditions which are dry sand and loader work. Then long term it will be grass and mowing.

Initially, I though I would need to stick to turfs because of the long term mowing, but through reading the various posts, it appears that most folks believe the R4's work fine for mowing as long as the grass isn't wet. I am zeroing in on the B3030, which is not a real heavy tractor anyway.

Any other thoughts about this?
