Will a two link ladder chain fall between the treads?

Will a two link ladder chain fall between the treads?

People make a mistake when putting on chains on tractor tires. They make them too tight and thus, the chain is caught between lugs. I have two link on my ags and they grip like anything. I use no tensioners at all and yes the chain still stays on. You will see from the pic that the loose chain sags when it comes around bottom and is the first thing to hit the ground and provides the extra grip chains afford. They may look like they are between lugs at the top of the tire but this is a meaningless circumstance as everything changes when the chain begins to bottom out. The fact that you are considering 2 link will provide even more traction as this example is a 4 link chain.

I also had 4 link chains on a tires on my Ford 2N I think the tires were approx 12 - 28. So I agree 2 link ladder chains will be fine.

exellent explanation! gotta love seeing the chains come away from the tire when ya in a higher gear and then dance a little bit as they get rolled a crossed on harder ground.

I'd love to have a set of chains for my R-4s, but so far have been too cheapskate.
Those tires make me feel a bet better about the weather checking on mine!

I had chains - V-bar - all the way around, when I had my Ford 1700. Fantastic, unstoppable traction when plowing snow. It was rough & cobby on the frozen ground but it sure stopped side slipping when rear blading snow off the driveway. True tractor chains are a heavy thing and a bit difficult to instal, also. Of course, the fact that I always waited until the snow was knee deep had nothing to do with the install, either. ha,ha

Really! Never witnessed this but I also never went that fast with chains. "Dance of the Chains" has as yet not been seen by me but will probably come to a theatre near me in the future.

Not sure if you bought them already, but another alternative is double ring chains. Usually cheaper than 2 link ladder chains, and will not fall between the lugs on R1s.
