I just recieved a quote of $1600 from my dealer on a Woods 6' RFM with chain, rear discharge, and anti-scalp roller. My other dealer sells First Chioce and those units go for $1450. How do these quotes compare with what you-all have gotten over the past 6 months? Right now I'm leaning to the Woods because I feel that it is a better made unit. My old Land Pride is still going strong after 14 years but it's only 5' and I need to trade up. I don't mind paying a little more for better quality. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

$1600 sounds good for a Woods RD7200. I have seen them from around $1900 to $2100.
There is a lighter "Heritage" model that typically goes for around $1600 - I think it's model no. RD72?

I'm gonna check with him Sat. It's probably the Heritage that he quoted. Most folk are so price driven I doubt that he sells many PRD's. My Landpride was the light duty 5' unit weighing only 440# but it has performance has been exceptional. Only replaced the belt 1 time and blades a couple of times. Never touched a bearing except with a grease gun. 14 years and over 800 clocked hours of use.

Yes, that's a good bargain basement price. When I bought my TC48 back in Sept. 2005, I was offered discounts on attachments. The Wood, 6' RFM was priced regularly at $1750, discounted to $1650. I knew that was a good price then. If they will also deliver it to you, I would say it's a keeper. The Woods is a high quality product, which cuts no corners on engineering, or manufacturing. You may pay a bit more, but you get more product. ;) When comparing don't forget to compare deck thickness, boarder edgeing einforcement. These details are sometimes overlooked. Woods competitors got to lighten up somewhere......

While I would agree that mechanically and structrurally the Woods product line is good, my experience with Woods has been that their paint prep and subsequent paint job leaves much to be desired. I bought a RM990 back in '95 and the paint was flaking off within a couple of years and not just in areas where I had left grass accumulations laying for to long. Never on any of the paint flakes nor underlying metal have I seen any sign of a primer having been applied.

Just my observation.

The poor paint job could have been an isolated batch occurance. I've haven't seen any Woods products with bad paint yet, but I'll keep your advice in mind.

I went to my dealer Sat and looked at the mower. It was a Woods Heritage with front roller and chain. He only had two in stock, one Kubota orange and one Woods grey.

To be honest with you I was impressed with the engineering and heft of the unit eventhough it is considered a regular duty. According to Woods specs it weighs in at 603 pounds without front roller and rear chain. That's over 110 pounds more than the equivalent First Choice.

I went ahead and ordered a blue one to match my tractor. It should be in within a week. He offered my a decent trade in on my old Landpride so that was the clincher.

I did check around and $1600 is a great price on the unit. Another dealer that sells First Choice quoted $1450 but that was without a front roller ($50) and rear chain ($50). When you add those options to the First Choice the Woods is only $50 more. My light duty 440 pound 5 foot Landpride lasted 14 years without any major repairs. The Woods should be just as good. We'll see.

I'll post a picture when I get the mower on the tractor.

Turbys, you still getting this? It's been six years. How has the Woods run?
I bet you could give some advice to Larro, who just brought a used one home.

I have two Landprides, a light weight six footer and a heavy weight eight footer.
Both have performed excellently. And guess what, a big patch of paint on the brand new expensive heavy duty one flaked off
after about two months. Paint was sheeting off on the area near the three point attachment. Dealer promptly repainted it, but it seems
inadequate paint prep is not uncommon in the ag field. Love the mowers though. But I wouldn't go larger than seven feet again on a one piece three point mower, too many "moguls" on the property I mow. That big mower sure does make an amazing counterbalance for the FEL but sure is hard to maneuver when using the FEL.

For once we can buy something made in Kansas...
