Haven't been here in a while. but was motivated to post this for others. Yanmar 2000B...bushogging 2 weeks ago, gets hot, shut it off. Open radiator and...what a mess, looks like it's full of sand! Remove it, take to radiator shop, get it recored. $250 as opposed to $350 for new. Reinstall and ....I swear it runs quieter! Not as much knock knock as a 2 cylinder will do. My imagination? I don't know.....it's evidently been running hot for some time.....but I swear, it's not as loud when running cooler!

My tractor runs quieter when the cooling system is completely full I know that for a fact.

I can always tell if it hasn't pulled all the coolant out of the bottle and back into the radiator on the occasions where I only run it a little while and it doesn't get fully warmed up and wont pull all the coolant back in it will knock louder.

It must be a known phenomena I have heard over the road diesel truck mechanics talk about it I believe its a cavitation issue from lack of circulation but may well be wrong?

I have seen sand dump out of a Chevy small block when the freeze plugs were removed. I guess left overs from casting. Flushing everything sounds like a good idea after seeing a messed up radiator.
