I don't know if it's a permanent solution or not, but here's what I did about the problem of the spring retention on the release plunger.

I got a replacement kit from LMTC for the plunger and spring, but even on that, it doesn't look like the spring retention design is very robust. So, I took a few measurements, and dropped by the local hardware store and picked up a couple of 10 cent 5/16" snap rings (E-style external retaining clips) that are a near perfect fit around the plunger shaft in the "groove" above the spring. It fit the old one as well as the new one.

We'll just have to wait and see whether or not it's a permanent fix. If not, at least I've got a spare.

I just found the C-clip that was included in the repair kit I got from LMTC. It looks much more substantial and a better solution than those E-clips I got from the hardware store. Seems like it was stuck to a piece of tape wrapped around the spring and pin as was accidentally discarded with the package wrapping paper.

So, if you get one of the repair kits from Wayne, there are 3 pieces included, the plunger, spring, AND a retaining clip. Don't do like I did and almost throw the real fix out with the trash.

Thanks, Wayne!

I have done the same thing more than once. Like you, I would think that something was missing and then after a while would find it stuck to something or in the packing.
