I purchased a set of 3/8" Quick Couplers and attached to a Flow Control Valve - male on one end and female on the other.
My intent was to have the ability to easily use the valve on any hydraulic connection since all my QC's are 3/8. However, the new male connection doesn't fit correctly on the existing female coupler and the new female part doesn't fit the existing male part. Evidently, these are not standardized. My existing hoses and connections are 2011, so fairly new. Should I try another brand of Couplers and hope they fit?

The problem isn't necessarily the manufacturers/brand. There are several different coupler standards (usually identified by ISO specifications such as ISO 5675 (common on ag equipment) or ISO 16028 (flushface couplers, common on skidsteer loaders). Some of the ISO specified couplers look similar to one another (ISO 5675, ISO 7241-1 Series A and ISO 7241-1 Series B) but are not actually interchangeable.

The chart below should help. Print it out at full size (100%) and match your existing couplers with the profiles to identify your coupler type and size.

Most manufacturers make couplers that meet the various specifications, and are therefore interchangeable. Some of them also make a few proprietary types that don't interchange with anything. Fortunately, the proprietary ones are not as common.

There is something similar to this if you look at standard air compressor fittings. There was a "ball" and a "bevel" type. They were interchangeable one way, but not the other (I forget which was which) There's always something out there to keep us guessing. lol

Evidently there are many standards -- some with ball type valves and others with poppet type valves. And then, to complicate matters even more, there are different thread types -- NPTF and ORB!
