I have a set of rear remotes that I use for a backhoe and the quick disconnects are leaking fluid. The fluid isn't pouring out, more like a drip but under heavy BH use it leaks enough to be a concern. I can't quite isolate the leak but it's either coming from the connection itself or where the QD threads onto the pipe.

I don't think it's a problem with them not being plugged in correctly. I've installed and removed the BH several times and the rear remotes have leaked since the dealer installed them (don't get me started about that!).

The first thing I did was check that the connections were tight (where they thread together). I could barely budge them so they were definitely tight! This did not help. So today I removed the QD's from the tractor, took them apart and resealed them with Permatex Super High Tack gasket sealant. I'll reinstall them tomorrow but I'm not very confident that this is going to fix the problem.

So, here are my questions:
1.) Is it common to find a faulty set of QD's or is this a rare occurrence?
2.) Is there anything I should try that I haven't already?
3.) Would Kioti cover replacing the QD's under warranty if I can't stop the leak? They are part of the factory-option rear remotes installed by the dealer so I think yes but don't know for sure.
4.) Finally, related to #3...any chance I could remove them and have a dealer swap them out without transporting the tractor? I don't own a trailer and it costs me about $100 a day to rent one.

Any help is appreciated!

One other thing...the dealer that I bought the tractor from and who installed the rear remotes doesn't carry the Kioti line anymore so I'm not counting on the original dealer to help me.

There is a new dealer in my area that perfomed my 50-hour service but I cannot expect them to fix it out of goodwill.

do you have O rings on the faces, mine had dirt on the contact face and dripped, clean them well and remove the O ring, clean the groove and insatll a new O ring

Greg,

I had a small leak when I first installed my rear remotes. The leak was coming from the threads between the QD and pipe threads. I fixed it using a method that the Hydraulic safety police  would not be pleased with. I was extra careful to keep the teflon tape sealant away from the end of the threads.:p

The directions say: "When assembling hydraulic pipe apply the pipe sealant (LOCTITE #577 or a equivalent)"

Good Luck

Not sure if this is your problem or not, but here is what may fix your problem. I bought one set of rear remotes last fall to install on my CK25. Everything went fine with the install however after running the tractor when finished I noticed a very slow drip right behind the threads on the female "connects". I tightend it and tightened it still leaked very slowly.

I then removed both female "connects" and wrapped teflon tape on the threads. I made sure to keep the teflon tape back about 3/16-1/4 of inch from the end of the threads. I re-threaded the two female connects back on and tightened them down. They didn't thread on as far with the t-tape but drip stopped and they are on solid, I have not had a problem since.

I'm sure some others will have suggestions. Good Luck.

Teflon tape. Definitely. And don't use the cheap stuff - there is a difference!! At home and at work, the only brand I use is Hercules.

We used to use powder type spray deodorant to find leaks on motorcycles. Use brake cleaner to dry the area and then use the deodorant. Leaks show up instantly.
