quick connect cutting edge attachment for backhoe bucket

When grading ditches or cleaning up fine material, we use to tack weld a grader blade cutting edge on the teeth of an excavator bucket. This worked very well when grading slopes, ditches and areas where a grader or dozer couldn't get. It turned the excavation bucket into a straight edged ditching bucket. Anyone ever build a quick attach system?

I'm thinking of having something built for the 24 inch excavation bucket on my L35 Kubota. I'm thinking the cutting edge would be something like 30 inches long and either bolt or clamp on the side of the excavation bucket with chain binders or something. My other thought was to buy a used bucket and have a grader blade cutting edge welded on the teeth. However, I'm thinking someone probably has designed a quick detach grader blade system.

It shows a couple ways to attach a removable edge to a bucket. I have used the 6' strap and cable version and it works great. If you have the room a binder & chain one seems even better. I think any handyman with a chop saw, welder, drill press and steel could make one.

I have a mini-hoe that has a ditch blade that goes over the teeth of the bucket. The top of the blade has a "V" welded to the top of it. The teeth slip into this. There are tabs welded to the "V". These tabs are bolted to holes in the bucket. Works fine for me.

I most often see the operator grab a beam or old RR rail to do this. You do need a thumb.

That is similar to what I have but more of a blade with a V instead of just a V like this one. It would be very easy to make - Flat plate and weld a smaller flat plate to it to create the V at the top. Add some tabs to connect it to the bucket.

I made something similar for my Dig-It backhoe a couple years ago. It's made from a piece of 1/4" plate, 24" high x 36" wide and slips over the bucket teeth and bolts to the bucket in a manner much as you describe. A piece of 2x2 angle reinforces the bottom. It can be installed in a minute or two and works great for backfilling. I'll try to remember to get some photos of it when I can.
