If you own a L3130, would you buy the same tractor again?
Some say it's underpowered for its weight--do you agree? I would get a L3830, except the tires and frame use in some tight spaces I have on my 80 acres. Would appreciate a 3130 owner's perspective. Thanks.

maybe....

I'm happy with mine, but it is a lot of tractor for the horsepower as someone once put it /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.
If I had to do it over again, I don't think I would have loaded the tires. I am in 2WD most of the time, even when plowing snow unless it's really deep. I think I would rather have the tractor be a little lighter and overcome any traction loss by using the 4WD more. I love the nice, solid, stable feel of it, but I may have had the same thing without loaded tires considering my first tractor was a much lighter B7500 without loaded rears.

Overall I'm pretty darn happy with it.

Except when brush hogging up a hill in high range with the HST pedal fully depressed while turning the steering wheel in one direction as far as it will go.... or something to that effect. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have the GST version. If I could do it over I would get the FST standard shift( afraid of those solenoids) and ag tires because I pull a 6' harrow and after the 2nd pass the tires slip pretty bad and I have to use 4WD. It has some frills that I could do without eg the intellipanel, the fancy seat and the adjustable steering wheel; give me live gauges, less electronics and a standard seat and steering wheel.

The tractor itself it not underpowered. It won't stall out, it will slip the tires, but it won't stall. I like the controls and the size and weight. If Kubota made something like the L3130 without all the bells a whistles, but kept the same size and weight I would get one.

Wouldn't a 2800 / 3400 be a no frills 3130 / 3430?

Topshop,
The 3830 is only marginally larger than the 3130 and only slightly heavier. If the 3830 is too big then the 3130 is likely to also be too big, they take identical accessories for the most part. That said, I am content with my 3130 HST machine. Put the bucket against an imoveable object and it will slip the R4's in low range and thats with the BH90 on. It will dig all day and not complain. The BH90 also is a brute and the machine doesn't know it's there at 2300 rpm.
The 3130 is a lower horse power larger tractor that works for me. I'm not a commercial user, if I was I would have a big yellow something instead. I dig holes, stumps and do some pile moving and grading and I sometimes use it to bring the squirrels in. I don't use it to cut grass or till or plant or spray, these uses I can't comment on.
You having 80AC may find it a bit small depending on the intended use. Just MHO.
Best of luck,
Martin

You have to realize, that even 10 years ago no one would ever question 30hp on a tractor that size. Today, HP sells. Often times its one of the only things a consumer understands before they start looking at tractors. Recently Deere and CNH revamped parts of their lines, the only real changes they made was to add more HP. Thats one thing Kubota does not do, I am sure it will creap up, but they don't release many new tractors without some real innovation. The only thing all the excess power gives you is more capacity at the PTO, thats one place I do think the 3130 is a bit shy, its borderline for heavy 72" brushhoging... but a tractor of its size could support an 84".

We have had our 3130HST for 2 years and are very happy for what we use it for (before that we had a 3010HST).. I have said this many times, but it is the most Kubota you can buy for the money.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts--very helpful. I have tried the 3130 earlier, and today I'll drive the TC33DA for comparison. Then I should be ready to pull the trigger. This forum is helpful to say the least.
