Question about 1540 purchase

This is my first post so go easy on me.

I'm looking at the MF1540 and see that it is the only tractor in the line with a turbo diesel. Are there any special service, repair or operating issues with the turbo vs 1533 (no turbo) model?

I am probably going to purchase an MF mostly because the MF dealer has the best rep for honest dealing and service but notice that the PTO HP on the MF is lower than other brands for similar gross HP. Any ideas on that?

I can't answer your specific questions regarding extra maint. with Turbo or why the PTO HP is 31 when other similar 40 HP tractors have more rated PTO HP.

I have been a 1540 owner for about two weeks and think it is a really nice tractor. But I have never owned a tractor before either.

I don't know anything but I am starting to learn. One thing is tractors ain't cars you got to grease all kinds of stuff you don't just jump in and drive off.

If you think you need more HP at PTO what about a 1547 or the 1648(is that it?). Probably not that much more expensive.

Not an answer to any of your questions,

but if you were to do a search here in the Massey forum I believe that everybody that has a 1533 wishes that they had spent the extra money and bought the 1540. Not that they are unhappy with the 33, just that the 7 extra hp would be nice to have at times. If you are going with a gear tranny, again about everybody likes the 12x12 vs the 8x8.

Anyway that you go, they are one nice tractor.

Oh, if you can swing it, don't forget about the skid steer attach loader bucket and the rear remotes. Best to get those at time of the purchase.

You should really ask about all the different options that there are, again usually best to get them at the time of purchase. You never know what you might need in the future.

Thanks. Just got done completing purchase of the 1540 with 12x12 tranny. Today was the last day of the 0% finance deal and I was able to get a fair trade on my old IH 2400A. I was assured by dealer and a few people in my valley who have more experience than I do that the turbo should not be an issue. Can't wait to have it delivered. Now trying to figure out if I can swing that backhoe I saw on the 1540 I test drove.

Scott, I'm sure that you will enjoy the 1540. Turbo is a big plus in my book. We have had nothing but good luck with all the different ones that we have. Both of my newer tractors have them and a few of our trucks .
Did you get any options to start with? Be sure to post pictures if you can, we all like pics. Hope that you can swing a deal for the hoe, it will be a big help on the property.

I am having rear remotes installed, primarily for my home brew log splitter and a rear mounted snow blower to be named latter and replaced my old, busted JD brush hog with a Woods heavy duty model with slip clutch. I went through lots of shear bolts in the Catskills. I will post pictures when it is delivered.
Funny thing is that I went to buy a brush hog and ended up with a tractor attachement.
Thanks for comments on turbo. Makes me feel like I made the right decision.
