quad shift has mind of its own

2015 JD6170M, quad shift gearbox.
Job, towing 15 ton tandem trailer on earthworks.
problem, quad shift in 1 in a,b, or c range , engage drive lever, (forward), and the quad shift starts in 3 AFTER you have specifficly shifted to 1. This only occurs going forward, not in reverse.
This is a problem because of the soft groud. B1 starts , but B3 will often stall.
I have driven 6910,6920 and 7430 quad shift tractors and never run into this problem.
What terms should I be looking for in the manual?

Do you have PowerQuad Plus? Or AutoQuad Plus transmission? If AutoQuad Plus it might programmed to ECO mode?

There is an auto shift buttton on this (6170m) tractor. I haven't had auto shift before.
At least I have some idea of what terms to look up,(that is half the battle) thank you zebrafive

Hello zebrafive, it wasn't under 'eco' but you got me on the right track. Some meddlesome monkey had gone into the "start gear" menu and shifted the start gear from 1st to 3rd. Shifting the start gear back to 1st solved the problem.

I am glad I was some what of a help. I am guessing a AutoQuad Plus transmission then.

Yes AutoQuad Plus. It would have been excellent on bale stacking, but on this earth works job the rough haul track means it is more comfortable to run in manual mode.

At least you did not have an electronic or mechanical problem, just someone reprograming the controls, which you were able to correct.
