There are several grades of AMSOIL Synthetic Hydraulic Fluid.

How did you decide which product to buy?

I am in Florida so winter weather need NOT be considered.

Only one is called " Tractor Hydraulic/Transmission Oil " It meets the LS API GL4 requirement and is recommended for the same Brands and Specs as the LS branded hydraulic fluid.
Here is a link: AMSOIL Synthetic Tractor Hydraulic/Transmission Oil SAE 5W-30

Here is a picture showing the Brand Specs on the LS branded hydraulic fluid container.

Nice pic. Is that your girlfriend? LOL

Yeah. But my wife doesn't know about her so no emails please. I don't know if we can last; I can't afford the cost of replacing the shocks on my bike every two weeks. :confused2:

AMSOIL has a program where, for $20/year, you become a "preferred customer" and buy their product at wholesale pricing.

I replaced my hyd oil with AMSOIL in a NH TC40D I owned, and I noticed quite a difference too.
You will appreciate it even more in Feb. My hydro drive was much quieter, and smoother.

dntfxr,

Where did you get your XR?

CT

I got it here local from Muddy River out of Oak Grove. Lonnie has been great to deal with and will go all out to help. Excellent service also, they actually offered to come pick the tractor up and deliver it back when the warranty work is done. I have a small leak at the transmission they are going to fix.
Btw the occasional steering noise has gone away, maybe it was just breaking in?

I contacted Lonnie when I was shopping, actually had a deal going with him. He was just a little too far away, if warranty service was required. We were on poopsite sides of the state. I bought the P7010C from Byle's in Many.

dntfxr,

I have noticed the same steering characteristics with my P7010C. I'm sure your XR series has a similar hydrostatic steering setup as the P series. When cold or at low RPM they can "chatter". It is probably more of a low flow/air issue than a problem. Once warmed up, it should perform fine. It is a sealed system, not really any "adjustments" that can be performed or needed if it otherwise works. Also, at low RPM or when cold it will "chatter" a little if you spin the wheel too fast.

FIY some of the P series tractors had a green colored steering unit that had a noisy relief valve. LS does have an alternative steering unit that is supposed to be quieter. You can ask your dealer about it if the noise bothers you! :)

Interesting... There is a noisy relief valve sound. Even when sitting still you can hear it cycle every 10-20 seconds.

When I stored tractors outside, 1-2 times anually I changed hyd oil AND filters to minimize moisture ladden oil regardless of hours.

Man. For me, at nearly $500/pop, that'd be paying for a steel carport in a hurry.
