I too am looking at the LS 4040H with FEL for our two NE New Mexico mountain ranches. My LS dealer (Austin, Tx) has been very accommodating in accounting for his pricing. He quotes on the base tractor price with FEL and then any additional implement options are individually quoted. He even runs the numbers for a cash price (with discount) or a partial financing model that includes how the monthly payment changes as each implement is added. As a side note, I am not impressed with the range of implements offered other than their grappler options and possibly a backhoe. I think the Everything Attachment site is a good alternative for reasonably priced, quality implements. And as noted by others already, all new purchases are negotiable.

Gordo, John Ryan will steer you right. I purchased an XR4046HC with a shredder, box blade, loader, and pallet forks. I purchased it in February and couldn't be happier with both the tractor and RCO's service during and after the sale...They are a good bunch of guys with a stellar reputation and they've earned it. I was comfortable with their pricing model and felt that I was getting a fair deal for what I was paying. I think that is an important part of a deal. I would gladly pay a little more to buy from someone I felt comfortable with, than someone who was making the sale based only on price. If you save 2k but the dealer relationship isn't there, I wouldn't be as happy. I've called both John and Alex at RCO with questions about numerous things and they are more than happy to help.

I think it sounds like a great price. Others have paid that or more for the smaller XR3135HC.

How well do the backhoes work on these compact tractors? Against a Kubota L45, these backhoe attachments don't look very tough, and their specs, ie. breakout force, etc, don't sound so good either. I need to dig ditch for a trailer park I'm developing. Is a compact tractor w/ backhoe attachment really up to the task?

I can't speak about the LS BH but would guess it will work fine. I don't dig a lot so couldn't justify a new LS BH price. I bought a used Woods 750 BH with sub frame for mine and adapted it to fit for less than half of new price for my occasional use and can always sell it if I don't need it. The Woods does a great job digging stumps and holes. I guess it depends how deep and long your ditch needs to be. The LS BH will easily dig a ditch but will take more time to do than a mini excavator. With a tractor BH you can only dig so far then have to switch seats and move the tractor then dig again and repeat the process until done. With a mini exc. you stay in the same seat to move. I dug a leach field with my tractor and it did a great job. How it digs also depends on the type of ground you have.
