here's what i've got my choices narrowed down to:

1. 2003 TC33D with 7308 FEL 180 hours, ~ the same $$$ as #3

2. 2004/5 TC33DA with 14LA FEL 59 hours, higher $$$ than the others

3. 2002 TC35D with 16LA FEL 450 hours, ~ the same $$$ as #1

how does the 7308 compare to the 14La, is the LA loader that much better?

TC33 vs TC35, greatest differences?

also, the TC35 is actually at a JD dealer, so not sure how I'd deal with service after the sale (take it to the local NH dealer?)

Let me start by saying the TC33D/DA is a great tractor. If you want to do a lot of finish mowing, it is much lighter and far more maneuverable than the TC35D. Also, if you want to haul it, it is much lighter and you can probably use a 7,000 lb gvwr trailer instead of a 10,000 gvwr.

You saw the other thread where MikePA posted some of the TC33D's irritant issues. Those are all true for all these tractors including the TC35D with the exception of the hydro cooler hoses. On the TC35D, be sure to inspect the battery area and radiator including the hydro cooler hoses behind the battery. You might be able to get a greater discount by pointing out any corrosion that you will have to get fixed at the New Holland dealer. Maybe that will work.;)

Here is a general comparison of the loaders:

- 7308 has a lift capacity of just under 1,000 lb, 14LA-1400 lb, and 16LA- 1600 lb. That makes it pretty easy to use the model numbers for an aid in maximum weight. Those are approximate figures just for reference. Your "mileage" may vary. Also, the 14LA/16LA are much easier to install and remove from the tractor in my opinion, and they are curved arm loaders with lots of visibility. They can both be set up easily for Bobcat style quick-attach implements. On the TC35D/16LA, you will love having a rabbit/turtle switch right on the joystick to change hydro speeds. That's a real plus. For loaders, the 16LA is the superior choice for capacity, features, and convenience.

Now to a comparison of tractors. I am just going to list what I consider superior on the TC35D. I own a class III tractor, so some of my bias may show up here, but I'll try to be objective.

35D nice features:
- More HP (not much more)
- Better operator layout (no clutch; brake pedals on left with hydro pedals on the right) and the joystick I mentioned before.
- A hydro with two ranges and two electo-hydraulic speeds within each range for a total of four hydro speeds/ranges
- heavier components in general including 3PH sidelinks and components
- Higher hydralic lift capacities and flow rates
- Maximum of 3 remote hydraulic valves instead of two
- Rear fuel tank
- Rear wheels that are adjustable in width. The center hubs unbolt from the outer ring for adjustment.
- Heavier with more pulling and lift power on both ends

Those are all I can think of off the top of my head. Since you didn't mention specific prices, I'm guessing that you can be flexible on price. Good luck with your shopping.:)

Jinman summed it up very well...
If your primary tasks are finish mowing where maneuverability is paramount, then go with the 33...
I have a 1720 which is very similiar in size to the 33...
It's very nimble and a real joy to use...
But...
If I would have had an opportunity to purchase a 35 at close to the same price...
I'd have taken the 35...
More tractor...

I guess i'm really surprised at the 7308's "lackluster" capacity...my current 21 hp tractor FEL has more lift than the 7308, seems odd to have a bigger tractor but less capability than what I have now. I've never really taxed the FEL I have now, but I have taxed the 7308 my FIL has on his TC25 (lifting smaller round bales to stack 2 high).

Waiting to hear back on the 33 with the 14la pricing...seems to be the best of all worlds for my situation.

thanks for the advice, never an easy decision....

well, #2 is out...it's almost $4k more...

dealer also explained, 7308 is good, 14LA is great!
also explained the measuring methods of various loader manufacturers, not necessarily apples to apples.

What are you going to be doing with this machine? Primary, Secondary? Is your FIL's TC29 nearby?

I have a TC18, Dad has TC40DA in Maine - the bigger machine is surprisingly nimble (no supersteer).

The TC35 is a bit underpowered for it's frame size - if you are looking to do HP intensive work, (mowing tilling etc.) you will have to go slower as you have to move the extra weight of the machine as well as cut the grass. I'd argue that a TC33 will run a 6' cutter up a hill easier than the tc35 (assuming gear ratios are similar).

If you are mostly using the FEL etc. the increased capacities of the 35 will serve you well.

primarily mow with it...pastures and fields, about 8-10 acres worth, going up in size to run a 72" rotary (my current unit will pull a 60" rotary, almost thinking about just keeping it)

FEL use includes moving smaller round bales around and stacking them 2 high, scooping horse poo and pushing snow, nothing too taxing.

For the same $ I go for the 35...
The 16LA is worth the difference IMHO...
