So, I have a pump location. it is 100 feet in elevation but close to 200 feet in run (angled hillside).

What are you guys thoughts on a pump? Look for one that can handle 100 foot rise or something with a higher rise capacity? Also, hose size. I was going to lay a 1" pipe but given the distance should I go for a 1.5 just to reduce friction?

Finally, any pump recommendations?

Carl

Pipe size will be based on volume needed. I would go with a submersible if possible. You can get much more bang for your buck and less to deal with. Priming, suction, cover, etc. If you use it for irrigation, a pressure regulator installed can eliminate a big holding tank and make the set up pretty compact.

I pump water up hill, about a 70ft rise and about 320ft of pipe. I use a cheap- $220 3.5hp Briggs engine-plastic homelite 2" pump. I think Pacer makes the pump now. I reduced the 2" outlet to 1.25" black poly pipe. The engine and pump work hard but are still going after 12 years. The pump was rated for a 100ft head so I have pushed it really hard. It takes about 20 minutes to fill a 550 gallon tank.

If you use a plastic pump put a shut off valve at the pump outlet and a t with valve in the line so you can drain the line when finished pumping. When the pump shut off all that water came back and made that plastic pump expand and contract like a lung and one time blew apart the back housing. Now when finished I shut the pump valve, open the valve at the t and let it drain and no exploding pump.

How much water do you want to pump and what is usage pressure required? What type of power supply available?

Kinda gotta know those facts to figure out the pumping system.:)

Had not really thought that out. At the moment it would be watering for an orchard. Just some hoses, turn them on, turn them off. Maybe fill a 50 gallon holding tank but that is it.

Knowing the wife it would expand to either manage a greenhouse or a garden (garden would be two to 4 sprinklers).

Go with the 1.5 in. pipe.

For the pump check out the curves when looking to find one that will meet your pressure and volume requirements. :)

You must also take the power supply into account. length of run, wire size voltage.
