JD 4115
Hi all, I have been looking for a pull trailer or wagon for my JD4115 for coordwood, dirt, rocks, etc.. I was wondering about some of these sturdy military trailers I see in the classified ads. They seem to be a good price ($350 to $500) and very sturdy 1/4 ton to 1 1/2 cargo trailers. Has any one had any experience with hooking one up with their CUT? Any information is appreciated.

I have pulled all kinds of trailers with CUTs except military, but it shouldn't be a problem. The easiest way is probably to use a 3 point 2" receiver hitch with a pintle adapter if it still has the original military hitch on it. Just remember to always keep some tongue weight since the 3 point hitch will not resist uploads.

I've seen some of those in rough condition. Get some sort of representation of the condition, especially as regards rust and tires. There is one of the drawbacks. The ones I am familiar with don't have standard wheels (Don't take regular 16 inch rubber) so tires could be a hassle to find unless yo stocked spares (also available surplus). You might not like the hitch height. Bringing the tongue down to hitch height on a small tractor would stick the rear way up in the air (again with the ones I've seen) which could shift any loose cargo way forward as well as being a pain in the rear (pun intended) to load at the tailgate with it way up. If you can cut and weld, you could re-engineer the tongue like I helped a buddy do to one of his. Stock, they sit pretty tall in the saddle. Tall enough that I considered trying to use one for a dump trailer.

Just some thoughts. The trailers to which you refer might be totally different from what I have seen.

If able, go to a Government auction and buy direct. You can see what you get and cut out the middleman profit.

John, I am looking for a similar wagon. But I am considering buying a set of 2200 pound capacity running gear from Northern Tool. It goes for $230 and runs on 16" tires. Then you fit up whatever form of floor and sides that you need. I'm thinking of using PT 2x8s for the floor and having slatted side boards for hauling hay bales, mulch, etc and long poles for hauling brush. If that isn't enough capacity, they have a 2-ton version (on 20" tires) for $400.

Why don't you just get a barge wagon? They usually have a hoist with them and you can get them for $300-500.

Hey cowboydoc, could you help me out and tell me what a barge wagon is?

I've pulled a 4'x8' trailer loaded with wet pond muck. Must of weighed close to 1800lbs. Kubota b7500hst had no problem in low gear using the drawbar with 2" ball.
My trailer is rated at 2000lbs and I've maxed that with various things.

Great information guys!. One of my concerns was the heigth of the hitch .5m to ,85 meters (reengineering the tounge) but I think if I could find the trailer in good condition with big wheels it would be a great bargin for woods work and muck hauling. I did go to the Northern Tool site but could not find the 2200 hundred pound capacity gear (do you have an item # rozette?).
Now the barge wagon at 48 bucks a pop what a deal. I think I'll buy more than one (ha, ha). Realistically, cowboydoc where can you buy one of these? an Ag center? I haven't been able to find one online yet (need some help here).

Good article RobertN everyone should read to be reminded.

cchotae, how did you know I was going to haul wet pond muck also, you must have CUT ESP!

You guys gave alot of great response s but let me ask you this. If I could find a decent Military trailer would a attachment like the Flexpoint allow me to hitch up at the correct height? The link adress is http://www.summitfab.com/ or will I have to still to modifications to the hitch or wouls another type like Lowerys "Towbar" mention in previous threads be sufficent. I kinda like the flexpoint idea and would be easy to replicate if you had the time.

Thanks, John

Check this website:http://www.countrymanufacturing.com
and check wagons down on left side.
My neighbor works there.
The flexpoint will work to adjust hitch ht. but like previous post U HAVE TO
HAVE TONGUE WEIGHT.
Northern has a pintle hitch to go in 2" tube also.

If you have a TSC (Tractor Supply Store) nearby, their catalog shows a 4'X8' trailor with 12" wheels in a box, you assemble and install your own flooring, for $230. I think it says 2000# capacity, I don't have the catalog handy now.

Actually, it is cheaper to buy the exact same wagons from Northern Tool than from Country Mfg.

The 1-ton wagon is $575 from Country Mfg. (model # 7300) and is $550 from Northern (item # 128409). For the 2-ton wagon is $1075 from Country (model # 8500) and only $900 from Northern (item # 128410).

In either case, the wagons are dropped shipped from Country's factory in Fredericktown, OH
