Public road use of Kubota RTV?

Is it possible to get a farm license or any form of limited license to permit limited use of RTV on public road? Does not seem to be problem for my tractor.

Based on past iterations of similar questions I'd say the answers to that are entirely regional and it would be best to call your local law enforcement types. Here in VT in rural areas (most of the state) it's no problem. The law in my town is secondary roads are fine, but I can drive thru the village on my tractor or any unregistered farm vehicle including my ATV if enroute from one of my properties to another. In our urban areas, such use of the roads is absolutely forbidden.

In New York the RTV is considered a tractor and I can drive it on a road that I want to. To reg one reqiures that it have a VIN number and the RTV does not have such a number. New York asked Kubota to put a VIN on them and they have thus far refused.

Thank you for your responses. Just found the CA DMV code covering this sujbect. Farm vehicles are classified as "Implements of Husbandry" and require a special exempt license plate. Its use is restrictive but seems appropriate for farming use. Now will submit the necessary applications and see what happens. Might even end up with a "special exempt license plate".

The RTV does have a VIN number. It's on the plate right behind your battery. It's something like KRTV900A410nnnnn where nnnnn = your serial # for that year.

NY is still scratching their heads on UTV's. The weigh seems to be the main issue since they want to classify it as an ATV but it's over the 1000# weight limit.

dos_perros - Read the fine print before you classify it as a farm vehicle. It may restrict you for using it elsewhere. Around here (PA), you can classify things as farm vehicles (including trucks, trailers...) but there's a lot of constraints imposed for using it for other purposes. Example: If you have some federal or state lands you want to ride on, your farm plates may put restrictions on you using them.

Thanks Bczoom for the heads up. Applications for both my tractor and RTV already sent off to CA DMV. Reading through all the DMV codes for "implements of husbandry" did not touch on non farm issues. However, your comments may well apply here also. We shall see.
