1998 Kubota L3600/Bush Hog 246 FEL skid steer quick attach
I have a Kubota L3600 with 510 hrs. Yesterday while using my tiller my pto started making a "knocking noise". The noise seems to come from the mid-section of the tractor. I immediately stopped the pto and haven't used it since the noise began. Anybody have any ideas?

Are you sure it isn't from the PTO shaft to the hoe, or more precisely the universal joints?

I disconnected the implement and still have the same noise. Seems to be coming from about the midsection of the tractor. I assume it is a broken gear tooth or possibly something more. Just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar experience.

I highly recommend not turning on the PTO and sending directly back to your dealer to check it out. It could be a broken gear, and if you continue to turn it on you may risk blowing that entire rear end and will cost at least 3k to repair.

This happened to my JD 2305 while brush mowing, the entire PTO literally exploded. The mechanic said that one of the gears may have been damaged at some point and while mowing, that gear caused everything to blow. Luckily, it was repaired under warrenty.
