Good Evening All,

First time poster long time lurker!

I am having an absolute nightmare trying to get the universal PTO joint that is used on the Rotovator to connect to the tractor PTO shaft. no matter what i do i simply cant get it off, i have no idea the last time it has been taken off bought the tractor about 4 months ago and have been doing it up and for reasons that only Murphy's law know i never tried to take it off before taking my pride and joy out to the field :)

the push pin on the universal is free (or was until i managed to pull it a bit now it is stuck in the open position (presumably because it has started to slide off)

i have tried all of the following:

WD40
AP Blaster
Freeze
heat
shock (not too much as i was worried about damaging the main tractor PTO shaft
WD40 + comealong winch (putting under strain then tapping 360 on shaft)
Have re attached the rotovator and used it in the field to see if that would help loosen it off (Nope)

last thing i tried was huge post plus chain and a few tugs (i know that is bad) nothing but nice track gullies.

I have a bearing puller but cant get purchase - so frustrated and don't know what to do - local dealer just set to cut it off but i do not want to try that, anyone got any ideas from you cleaver people ?

if you need pics or any other info please let me know

Thanks in advance
Jon

See if you can rubber band a freezer bag around it, and then spray lots or PB Blaster on it so it can just soak (i.e. immerse the shaft). Wait several days, put a little pressure on it with a come a long and tap tap tap on the side of it.

Repeat if necessary

i had a similar issue years ago. what i did was place the claw part of a hammer against tractor and apply pressure on the pto shaft fitting. then i began lightly tapping the fitting with a 12oz finish hammer. it slowly began to pull apart. then i thoroughly cleaned shaft and all pto fittings. i now spray silicon into all ptos before attaching. no further issues.

key is light pressure and not smackingView attachment hammer.jpg

Looks like the tractor shaft has a center dimple, the first thing I would try would be to take out the u joint, make a custom puller and use that to pull the coupler off. If that didn't work then I would say adios to the coupler and cut it parallel to the splines in a couple of places with a reciprocal saw and these:

DS:cool:8CF | Recip Blades | Thick Metal | Carbide - Diablo Tools

Good luck!

This also works for me, but I use a crow bar, and it's never failed to work.

I do start out spraying it with lube.

SOAK IT in Penetrating Oil First, then do this...

Good Evening Ladies and Gents,

Well in these dark times i come to you with good news!! it is off!! The old crowbar trick did it for me, pull pull pull spray pull pull pull rinse and repeat 1.53 million times 1 hour later POP!. I am so happy, who would of thought it would indeed bring me such joy but it did!!!

So now a few follow up questions, I would be very grateful if you would help me one more time.

i have never cleaned a PTO shaft before how would i clean this i am worried that i would do / use the wrong thing

Same question with a twist, i am not sure the picture will pick it up but there is rust or pitting on the splines how do i clean this please

The lock pin (spring mounted) seems to have some notch in it is this meant to be here or is it damaged, tried to get a good picture, it was also jammed in the open position (fully pressed in) so not sure if that was a problem or not?

Again thanks for the help so far, and i hope you and your families are all safe and well
