Just got a Post Hole Digger and when I move the lever to disengage the PTO after digging a hole it runs on. I can stop it by depressing the clutch a couple of times. If this is normal I can deal with it, but I hate to think that my rotary cutter might keep on turning after I ask it to stop. Could there be some adjustment that needs to be made in the linkage after a season of use?

Thanks in advance, as always for all the help you huys offer me.

I have a L2800 and that is not normal. Looks like a trip to the dealer for a little warranty work.

I think this issue may be related to the amount of load on the PTO. The OR Clutch that engages the PTO has a bit of a rake angle on the teeth which tends to keep it engaged.

Last year I used only a bush hog and snow blower on my L3400 and the PTO always disengaged without clutching. I just put a new Woods RD7200 finish mower on this year and noticed that the PTO does not disengage if I don't clutch it. The finish mower has more load when not cutting. I now slow the engine to 1500, depress the clutch and then disengage the PTO quickly. You can hear the clutch ratchet for just an instant but it disengages right away.

If you have to clutch several times I don't understand why but then you may have an issue. Do you use the clutch the first time you disenage?

My dealer told me not to use the clutch when I disengage the PTO. I'm thinking now that I will use the clutch. As soon as I hear the ratchet sound of the clutch, it is unloaded, and then I disengage it.

NOTE: This only applies to HST models.

Try lubing the cable that hooks to the PTO lever and runs down to the transmission with penetrating oil, from the front and rear end. My L2800 was doing the same thing and this seemed to help it.

Thanks guys. I will indeed look at some penetrating oil this weekend. Unfortunately my land is an hour from me and I only get to play on weekends. Now that you guys mention it I do not use the clutch to disengage the bush hog but have for some reason with the PHD. I think it is so I can lift out of the hole without sp[inning some of the time.

Thanks for the help. My 50 hour visit is only a month or so away and I guess I will be sure to mention it then just in case.

I'm thinking if you use the clutch and wait for the PHD to stop it may not disengage. Try cluthcing and disengaging at the same time.

Please let us know what the dealer finds. Thanks and good luck.
