Where is the best place to buy PTO shafts? I stopped at TSC today to get a shaft for a 5 ft brush hog. $379, for one with just a shear bolt, no slip clutch, there has to be somewhere cheaper than that.
They sell them at the local farm and fleet (like a TSC), I recall them being a good bit cheaper than that. I went to a local driveshaft place about a year ago to buy mine. They build and repair driveshafts for construction equipment and race cars. They used the ends off my old shaft so it fit my bushhog (actually it was the part that mates to the slip clutch) and dynamically balanced it. I think I paid about the same amount you're talking. Maybe look up some places local and check them out.
I bought a brand new, complete shear bolt style driveshaft at my local farmer's Co-op year before last for $90, including the safety covers. You need to shop a little bit.
