I have a PTO driven chipper on the back of my B2920 and I can't seem to get the shaft to release from the tractor. I'm sure there's a trick to this I'm missing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

which of the three types of PTO shaft release do you have. Do you have the push the button to release do you have the twist the collar to release do you have the pull the collar to release? And you try the appropriate method?

Hi, CT here also (south east CT). I have a Kubota with a PTO chipper. It's a little hard to explain, but here goes... you need to squeeze the spring loaded part of the PTO with your thumbs facing the chipper and fingers facing the tractor. While you squeeze, slide the PTO shaft off. Wiggle it a bit to get it free and moving. Sometimes it helps to get more room if you disconnect the chipper from the three point hitch and then drive the tractor forward a little to gain some room. If all else fails you can always drive forward and the two PTO shafts will seperate and you'll have plenty of room then! Remember to add some grease to the (clean) PTO shaft before you connect it to the tractor.

Lubricating the PTO stub is important.

Grease would not be my choice; grease can form a grease collar/bubble and resist connection/release.

Fluid Film is best. Just the right viscosity, heat resistance and a strong anti-corrosion material. It is worth having Fluid Film just for the PTO connection.

WD-40 is pretty good too. EVERYONE has WD-40. However, when the PTO connection gets hot, WD-40 will evaporate, leaving you short of lubricant and short of corrosion protection.

Scrub both PTO stub and implement splines with a wire brush occasionally, wipe clean and re-lube with Fluid Film. It does not take much dirt or dried sap to make connection/release difficult.

+1 on the fluid film. That is what I use too.

Thanks Hill-Billy... after separating the two shafts I was able to get it off no problem!
